Climate Innovation Hub is a city level, multi-actor governance and action “mechanism design” with an end goal of economic, environmental and social sustainability. Currently being active in Maastricht, its replication methodology for other cities is public.
The 6-Step Methodology is as follows:
-
Climate Innovation Hub takes an “objectives-first approach” to designing societal governance and action mechanisms.
-
Climate Innovation Hub brings together a variety of ideas around several objectives and it institutionalizes physical, online, networked spaces for interactions among multiple actors for concrete, urgent and emergent (unstructured, semi-structured, structured) issues and solutions at city and/or regional/provincial level.
-
Actor participants bring forward and generate ideas towards desired objectives of sustainability based on their own interests yet in a strategic relational setting, where public, private and social sector participants are open to learn from each other in a multi-actor setting.
-
Actor participants only need to consider the situations in which the other actor participants truthfully report their own ideas and interests on how to proceed towards a solution.
-
Climate Innovation Hub proposes locally negotiated solutions for a class of public information-action issues (e.g. action towards sustainability).
-
The goal is the main “given”: sustainability, while the mechanism towards sustainability is the unknown.
